 From Strategy To Execution In A Lean And Effective Way

While Agile has helped us focus on the correct subjects, made us more efficient, and helped us gain more vertical knowledge, it is sometimes misinterpreted or misused. While the Agile Manifesto prefers "responding to change over following a plan," it doesn't mean in any sense that it opposes strategy and planning.

The idea of Agile is to use tools as long as they work for us. As long as they help us deliver working software, and not vice versa, e.g. creating and maintaining measurements that are not actionable, then we should continue to use them.

On the other hand, I happened to see in some places that testing in Agile has become much more ad-hoc testing than something planned, on all levels. I want to suggest a method to be used throughout testing, from the strategy, planning, and execution, while still maintaining an Agile approach.

Endgame Testing: Exploring Your Agile Product End-to-End

The main goal of endgame testing is to test the system end-to-end from the user's perspective. This should ensure continuity between components developed by different teams, continuity in user experience, and successful integration of new features. Endgame testing will often identify gaps that are difficult to discover inside agile teams, including flows across the product.

Mindfulness and Exploratory Testing

Many words, articles, and books have been written about Exploratory Testing: definitions, ways of implementation, examples, and more. However, I am not sure that someone tried to define or recommend the mental state that we should adopt when we perform these tests.

אנו שומעים הרבה על בדיקות סיוריות או חקרניות (Exploratory Testing), אבל בצוות שלי לפחות, לא השתמשנו בה בכבוד הראוי לה, כלומר בצורה מתודולוגית (יותר ממה שבדרך-כלל מייחסים לגישה זו).

בדיקת ההתקנה והוראות ההתקנה

פעמים רבות אנו הבודקים מזניחים את בדיקות ההתקנה ובדיקות הוראות/מסמכי ההתקנה, כשלמעשה זהו אחד החלקים החשובים ביותר בהעמדת המערכת ובשיווקה.

ברור שאנו מתקינים את המערכת במהלך הבדיקות, וברור שאנו עורכים בדיקות קיט (אני מקווה), וכנראה בסביבות שונות. כמו כן ברור שבמידה שלא ניתן לסיים את ההתקנה אנו נתריע על כך כדבר קריטי. אבל זהו מסלול אחד של בדיקות, ופעמים רבות – זה אינו המסלול היחידי.
